Hymn 311

This is one of my (and my kids) favorite hymns for children. It is actually a poem by Cecil Frances Alexander. Our 1940 Episcopal Hymnal only includes three of the stanzas, plus the chorus, which is the first stanza of the poem. I found two more stanzas while purusing my latest treasure from our local Hospice Thrift Store: The New Junior Classics volume ten, poetry (1949).

Here are the two extra:

The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at his gate,
God made them, high or lowly,
And order'd their estate.

The tall trees in the greenwood,
the meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water
We gather every day.
